A few months ago I was driving down Chenal Parkway after dropping my kids off at school and heading to work. As I drove I came upon cars stopped across all 4 lanes and a pair of geese crossing the road with their babies following. They crossed the road and then hopped up on the curve and headed down to a little stream. As traffic started to move again I noticed that three of the geese had not made it and were in danger of getting pushed down the side drain or run over. I pulled my car into the middle lane, put on my flashers and put my hand out to stop the cars then quickly put the little ones into the grass. The adult geese came back honking happily and took their babies down to the stream with the others. I got back in my car and continued driving. As I drove I heard the LORD say "Like that". I had been praying for the LORD to let me know what his voice sounds like vs when it was my own flesh or even satan. There was a time when I felt I was much more discerning but life/ worries/ doubts seemed to be sometimes drowning out his voice, but at this moment I heard him clearly. He said "Like that. You just did what you knew you should without over thinking. You didn't worry about someone taking your running car, or getting hit, or people thinking you are crazy for stopping traffic on a busy road. You acted on my spirit within you.
A few days later I was on Cantrell Road again driving my 7-year-old from his baseball game a little after 7 at night. It was beginning to get dark and there are parts of the road that are not well lit. As I drove, I came upon a woman walking in the road and I had to swerve to not hit her. I said out loud "that lady's crazy' and kept driving. The LORD quickly told me to turn around and said I had something she needed, so I turned around. I went back to where she was, once again stopped my car and turned on my flashers and asked her if she needed a ride. She looked at me then went behind my car and crossed all 4 lanes of traffic. We began to drive home and I looked at my son and said "I don't think she understood me". He said I should speak Spanish to her, but I could tell she was probably middle eastern. We decided to go try one more time and went and found her. This time I stopped and pointed to the empty front seat. She came over and said "You help?" I said YES! She got in the car and we headed to her apartment. We began to talk. I found out what country she is from. She also said she is not a Christian but has been going to church on Sunday with some people she met. She asked me to come in for tea or coffee but it was late and I needed to go feed my children, but I said I would come back the next morning. I came back after taking the kids to school the next day. She welcomed me into her spotless apartment, put her soft slippers on my feet and served me. We communicated through the translator app on her phone. We talked a lot about our religions and also her life and how she ended up here in Little Rock. Her name is Rose. She had been married twice, both to cruel men. She was first married to a man who had 4 wives. She had 2 kids with him and it was a toxic situation with all the women in the house. She eventually left that situation and married and American man stationed in her country. She and her kids lived on base with him for 3 years. She said he was a good father to them. He was deployed back to Arkansas, and she obtained the proper paperwork to come join him and would apply for her children to come once she was here. She arrived here last November, went to her husband's house and knocked on the door. He opened the door, saw her, and shut the door in her face. She was now homeless, husbandless, and without her children. She lived on the streets until she could get a job and an apartment. As she told me her story, I told her God is not like those men and showed her verses of his faithfulness and love for her. She said she needed a new apartment and showed me a hole in the wall from the March tornado. We began looking. She wanted one close to work and church, with a washer and dryer because she currently washed her clothes in the sink, and it had to be under a certain amount of money. So I began looking. It was very difficult to find anything decent for the price range, and many of the rentals in that area were damaged from the tornado so there were not many options. I looked for a few weeks but didn't find anything. About a month ago a rental property came up that I hadn't seen before. It was a 2 bedroom property less than a mile from both work and church and it had a washer and dryer. It also was fully furnished and as she put it "it has TV!". Over the last month I helped her work on paperwork. She really loved the house and at one point she asked me "what is your feeling about this house?". Did I feel this was her house because she really loves it. I said yes. She said good because I can't be on the street again. Monday she completed her lease and Tuesday she got the keys! This house is everything plus a lot more than what I was praying for! I love the way God has taken care of her! Now I am just praying she can bring her kids here quickly! I wonder what would have happened if I hadn't stopped. Maybe God would have taken care of her in the same way I just would not have had the blessing of watching him care for her. So thankful for that powerful small voice within me!
"Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or imagine, according to the power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen." Ephesians 3:20-21
